Summerfields Primary School
On their application to the Green Fund for Schools, Summerfields Primary School told us:
“We consulted with our pupils who are brimming with ideas. They are excited about the prospect of improving and enhancing the existing forest school area to nurture their love of the outdoors and to maximise their learning outside of the classroom.”
“Our existing area is fenced as there is a pond, but our pupils are keen to help extend the area outside of the fence for their benefit during break times and lunch times and have suggested interactive conservation activities and games to assist with plant, animal and leaf identification. To enhance the biodiversity, planters for growing plants and vegetables will further develop the area. Bird tables can be created and used to encourage and identify new feathered friends and the children will take pride being part of a rota to ensure that feeders are topped up and new species are logged and studied.”
The project was awarded £500.
In December we heard from the schoool that they have been planting bulbs to help with biodiversity, the first phase of the project.
“Thank you to Wightlink for our grant, with it we bought some planters. The children in the school council helped plant some bulbs for us. They had a great time even if it was very cold.”
