In celebration of 1,000 years of innovation centred on the Lymington River, St Barbe Museum + Art Gallery is hosting Lymington Afloat from September 2024 to January 2025. This four-month celebration highlights the vital role the river has played in shaping the town and its surrounding villages.

Main Exhibition:

Dive into a major exhibition showcasing the river’s influence on Lymington’s social, commercial and environmental history. Explore the pioneering work of local marine designers and boat builders, and learn about the river’s history and its continued importance to the community.

Lymington Afloat includes:

  • A physical exhibition at St Barbe Museum + Art Gallery.
  • An online exhibition connecting the river’s history to local businesses.
  • A Festival Weekend on 28-29 September filled with community-focused events.
  • A Town Trail, highlighting participating businesses and offering special offers to the public.
  • An educational and career development program for students from preschool to university, fostering learning and growth.
